PUBG Steam lost a lot of players in Feb 2018 possibly due to Fortnite

PUBG hasn’t been doing very well on Steam

PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds was one of the most popular games of 2017. PUBG has been the most played game on Steam the second place not even close to PUBG’s player count. PUBG was growing very fast and it seemed like it will never stop but it has stopped and it has lost a lot of players in February. We don’t know how well the Xbox One version is doing but we do know that it has sold more than 4 million copies on the Xbox One. The low sales could be the result of poor performance on the Xbox One and Fortnite.

According to Steam charts, PUBG gained 148,728.3 average players in January but lost an average of 193,871.5  players in February. In February PUBG got a peak amount of 2,934,761 players but in Jan PUBG got a peak amount of 3,236,027 players. This player loss is probably the result of Fortnite’s recent popularity. Epic Game’s Fortnite has been getting many updates and compared to PUBG it has less lag and glitches. Fortnite has been getting a lot of new game modes and weapons but PUBG Corp hasn’t been adding as many new features to PUBG. Fortnite is also free to play so many players play Fortnite instead of buying PUBG.

PUBG Corp has been trying to bring things to PUBG so players return. A new system called event mode is going to be added to PUBG and it’s a “periodically changing preset Custom Game where we will be trying new things and experimenting with different game parameters.” This is very similair to Fortnite’s limited time modes such as the teams of 20 mode and Blitz mode. You can pick up PUBG for $29.99 from Steam and the Xbox One Store. Right now PUBG PC has an 86/100 on Metacritic and a user score of 4.5.
