Next-Gen Sony PlayStation VR Headset (PSVR 2) to be Wireless! Leaked Image | UltragamerZ Exclusive

The Next PlayStation VR is possibly going to work just like a PS Vita on the PS4!

Right now the Sony PlayStation VR is the most popular virtual reality headset by far outselling the competition in terms of hardware and software. The PSVR is very successful because you can pick up the headset, two PlayStation VR Move controller, a PlayStation camera, and two VR games for the low price of $350. The fact that a PS 4 only costs $300 also helps the PSVR as a gaming PC that can play VR games without a lot of issues will cost you at least $500.

With the PSVR so successful, Sony is definitely going to release next-gen PSVR headsets for the PS 5 and we didn’t have a lot of information until now. Thanks anonymous source that sent us the leaked image, showing that the PSVR 2 is going to be fully wireless! You better take it with some grain of salt, after all we have not heard  back from the leaker or the fake leaker and simply reporting it. The image though doen not seem to be much out of the window, after oculuc’s stand alone versions VR released by Facebook it may be the main feature that the competitors are looking to cover. The Oculus Go and Oculus Quest are both entirely self-contained. That means they have their own displays, processors, memory, storage, and batteries. That may be or may not be the case for PSVR 2 but going wireless seems to be imminent. 

When is it Coming Out?

Right now, we don’t have an exact release date for the next-gen Sony PlayStation VR but, we know that the PSVR 2 is going to be released with or after the PlayStation 5. Sony has confirmed that the next-gen PlayStation console isn’t going to come out in 2019 therefore, we can assume that we’ll see the PSVR 2 after 2019. The PlayStation 5 is rumored to be released mid-2020, most likely around summertime. Of course, the PSVR 2 is most likely going to be released a few months after the PS 5 as most of Sony’s team is focused on developing the PS 5 right now. If the rumors are real, the PSVR 2 is most likely going to be released around the holiday season. 

How Much Will it Cost?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a price point for the PSVR 2 either but, we can easily make an accurate estimate. The PSVR bundle with the motion controls and camera launched with an MSRP of $499 and at the time that was a competitive price. Of course, the headset received price cuts to compete with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. If the PSVR 2 launches with an MSRP of $499 in 2020, it may have a hard time competing with the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headsets as their prices would be definitely be reduced by a good amount. The PSVR 2 bundle with the control and camera is most likely going to cost somewhere around $400 so that it can compete.

A New Controller? 

Sony is rumored to release a new controller for the PSVR that will be able to compete with the Oculus Touch. The PlayStation move controllers are very outdated now and Sony will definitely need to release new controllers if they want to compete with the competitors. The HTC Vive is rumored to get a new and updated controller as well, therefore Sony has to release new controllers if they don’t want to fall behind. 

The patent above was a patent filed by Sony a while ago. As you can see, the new controller is designed to be held in one hand so it’s obviously for a VR headset. The controller looks like a very advanced Wii Nunchuk. This controller obviously doesn’t look as futuristic as the Oculus Touch controller but, it’s still a massive upgrade over the PlayStation move controllers. Of course, companies are always filing patents for products that they never use so the PSVR controller may not turn out like this.

EXCLUSIVE: PSVR 2 to be Fully Wireless

A source that described him/her self as someone from Sony design centers, has informed us that the next-gen PSVR headset is going to be fully wireless and they supported their claim with an image which you can see below. The claim and the image seem to be real and believable since going wireless and stand alone is the next standard basing in VR headset industry. But take this leak with some grain of salt, we have not a clear history of approved leaks from the source, so time will tell how accurate it is. And the design seems to be in development stage that may be old or recent in design processes but in this stage things tend to change and Sony may or may not go with it. 

PS VR 2 Leaked Concept Design, LLW Placment

The source from Sony has informed us that the next-gen PSVR headset is going to be fully wireless. The PSVR 2 headset is reportedly going to be able to stream games from the console onto the headset. It’s going to use the same technology as the remote play feature on the PS Vita and the PS 4 but, it’s going to be more developed and with better visuals. Remote play is filled with bugs and issues but, Sony is working hard to fix them so that gamers can play VR games without tripping over wires and still get good performance. 

The concept if it survives the design path of the company seems to be narrower and curvier in the screen part. The concept seems to be about the final placement of the LLW converter or receiver and presenting two best options they have come up with. In Displaylink technology it actually has a wire, but somehow connects to a receiver connected to the back of the user and not to the main device like the image below. The quest does not have any wire but again it is not a streamer for a device like PS Vita, it is running it own apps. The new PSVR may be a VR version of the PS Vita so the main processes is done in the PS4/PS5.

This is the old way of wired connection VR headsets like PSVR have to get connected to the device. The new generation of headsets started by Quest from Facebook is trending a wifi connected device that gets rid of all the wire connection you see above.

What is LLW and possible partnership?

Most possibly LLW is short for Low Latency Wifi or ULLW Ultra Low Latency Wifi, it is basically a wifi technology that its usage in VR and was introduced back in CES 2017 by a company named Displaylink. It is very possible that there is a partnership between Displaylink and Sony on making and developing of the next gen psvr or Sony has been developing its own version of such technology. The latest ULLW from Displaylink has the following specs:
