16 core AMD Threadripper 3000 series crushes the Ryzen 9 3900X and Threadripper 2950X

AMD had omitted its HEDT processors from its Investor Presentation earlier this year causing some people to speculate that AMD planned to curtail its Threadripper brand, a rumour that CEO Lisa Su was quick to shut down. We previously reported on information that AMD planned to release new Threadripper CPUs in Q4 2019, and now one seems to have appeared on UserBenchmark.

The processor, which we expect to see before the end of the year, is compatible with the TR4 socket and existing X399-based motherboards. It leaves the Threadripper 2950X and Ryzen 9 3900X in its wake in multi-core tasks too.

Spotted by @TUM_APISAK, the benchmark listing reveals that the 16 core and 32 thread CPU has a 3.6 GHz base clock, which it can turbo up to 4.05 GHz on average. The processor utilises the SP3r2 (TR4) socket, making it compatible with existing X399-based motherboards. UserBenchmark identifies the system as an AMD Sharkstooth and the motherboard as an AMD WhiteHavenOC-CP, which has been paired with 64 GB of Micron DDR4 RAM in a quad-channel array running at 1,600 MHz. Notbook check reports

AMD expected to release a 64 core HEDT monster too this year, all of which will be manufactured on a 7 nm FinFET process. Positive times indeed for AMD.
